Hong Kong Hosts 2026 World Internet Conference Asia-Pacific Summit

The Government of Hong Kong hosted the 2026 World Internet Conference Asia-Pacific Summit to discuss AI governance, digital finance, and international cyberspace cooperation.

The Government of Hong Kong hosted the 2026 World Internet Conference Asia-Pacific Summit from April 13 to 14, convening approximately 1,000 participants from 50 countries and regions. The two-day event focused on digital and intelligent empowerment, featuring a main forum and six sub-forums dedicated to AI security, governance, digital health, and digital finance.

Chief Executive John Lee highlighted the city's role as a super connector and its advantages under the One Country, Two Systems framework. To bolster this position, the government is investing HK$30 billion into innovation and technology hubs in the Northern Metropolis. During the summit, the World Internet Conference also launched the 2026 Leading Science and Technology Awards and the 2026 Distinguished Contribution Awards.

Industry leaders utilized the summit to showcase practical AI applications. Ronald Iu, Chief Executive of Ping An Digital Bank (International) Limited, detailed how the bank employs AI to combat deepfake technology and streamline customer due diligence. The bank is collaborating with the Hong Kong government to develop financial platforms connecting the Greater Bay Area with international markets, aiming to reduce operational costs for customers through deeper technological innovation.
