EU Council Approves Temporary Duty-Free Access for Armenian Exports

The European Union Council approved a legislative initiative to temporarily liberalize approximately 80% of Armenian exports to the EU market for a period of two years. The measure abolishes customs duties on a wide range of goods to provide Armenian exporters with broader market access.

To maintain this preferential trade regime, the Government of Armenia must comply with EU rules of origin and avoid introducing new restrictions on imports from the EU. Additionally, Armenia is required to adhere to the principles of democracy, the rule of law, and human rights as established in the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.

The proposal now awaits formal approval from the European Parliament. Once approved, the measure will enter into force upon its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
