INDIA Bloc Demands Removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar
The INDIA bloc alliance is campaigning for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of institutional capture and electoral roll irregularities.
The INDIA bloc opposition alliance is coordinating a nationwide campaign to demand the resignation, prosecution, and impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The alliance alleges institutional capture and electoral malpractices, specifically claiming that over 13 crore names were deleted during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. This unrest follows reports that other Election Commissioners had raised objections to these procedures 14 times over 10 months.
In a significant expansion, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by C. Joseph Vijay, joined the INDIA bloc in Tamil Nadu. During a meeting in Chennai, leaders described the entry as a historic move to strengthen the fight against the RSS-BJP. The alliance has scheduled district-level demonstrations across Tamil Nadu on October 13, 14, and 15, ending with a joint protest in Chennai.
On a national scale, the bloc convened in Jammu on October 3 to coordinate a Save Democracy campaign running through October 8. Planned actions include a march to the Election Commission office in Delhi on October 6 and a major rally in the capital on November 1. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders are further advocating for a return to paper ballots over electronic voting machines to ensure transparency.
