US Selects Poland for Europe's First PAC-3 Missile Center

The United States will invest $253 million to establish a Patriot missile maintenance center in Poland to strengthen NATO's eastern flank and reduce reliance on US facilities.

The United States Department of War selected Poland to host Europe's first dedicated maintenance center for Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) air defense interceptor missiles. Announced on October 27, the $253 million investment aims to reduce reliance on U.S.-based facilities, potentially shortening missile turnaround times from over a year to a few months.

Poland secured the project after competing against Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway. The facility is expected to be operational within 12 to 18 months and will provide inspection, repair, refurbishment, and recertification services. While the official site remains unconfirmed, the WZE electronics plant in Zielonka is the primary candidate. Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden will lead the integration of the facility's supply chain in cooperation with Lockheed Martin.

The initiative aligns with the NATO 3.0 strategy established at the July 2026 Ankara summit to strengthen deterrence on the eastern flank against Russian threats. Polish officials view the center as a critical step toward eventually launching domestic PAC-3 missile production. Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka noted the result followed months of negotiations, while U.S. Under Secretary of War Michael P. Duffey stated the investment sends a clear message that the alliance is united and ready to back its words with action.
