The Equitable Party has named Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as its interim leader and presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election. Suba South MP Caroli Omondi announced the appointment, describing the party as a vehicle intended to provide an alternative political direction for Kenyans by addressing corruption, tribalism, and a lack of national equity.
This leadership change is part of a broader restructuring process. According to party official Gilbert Changa, the party is reorganizing to integrate like-minded political formations and leaders who support the equitable distribution of national resources and inclusive governance. The transition involved the outgoing party leader stepping aside to facilitate Sifuna's appointment.
Originally registered as a model party on March 25, 2022, by founders including Eunice Juma and Kerry Karani, the Equitable Party aims to unite citizens across ethnic and generational lines. During the transition, leadership advised Sifuna to prioritize faith, maintain respect for the presidency and former heads of state, and surround himself with professional experts if elected to office.
