Tesla Shares Rise as US-Iran Conflict Spikes Oil Prices
Tesla shares rose 4% on August 31 as military strikes between the United States and Iran drove crude oil prices to $86.06 per barrel.
Shares of Tesla rose 4% to $364.30 on August 31, 2026, following a spike in crude oil prices. Oil climbed to $86.06 per barrel after the United States and Iran resumed military strikes over the weekend, which constrained shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Market analysts attributed the stock rally to the gasoline-price trade, suggesting that higher fuel costs make electric vehicles more attractive to consumers than gasoline-powered models. This trend occurred despite Tesla stock remaining down 22% year-to-date.
Tesla executives previously contested the idea that fuel economics drive their sales. During a second-quarter call on July 22, the company stated that vehicle demand is instead driven by product appeal and the adoption of Full Self-Driving technology.
