Worldpay and Trulioo Develop Identity Framework for AI Agents
Worldpay and Trulioo are creating a Know-Your-Agent framework and Digital Agent Passport to verify AI agents acting as economic actors in agentic commerce.
Payment acquirer Worldpay Group and identity verification company Trulioo are collaborating to develop a Know-Your-Agent (KYA) framework. This initiative aims to facilitate agentic commerce, or a-commerce, a system where AI agents function as independent economic actors capable of making transactions.
The framework introduces a Digital Agent Passport, which provides a tamper-proof bundle of credentials. This allows merchants to verify that an AI agent is legitimate, authorized, and operating with proper consent. The system addresses a critical gap in current verification processes, as non-human actors lack the biometrics or government-issued identification required by traditional identity standards.
Cindy Turner, Worldpay's chief product officer, stated that forward-looking merchants are seeking industry support to leverage these new opportunities. This shift toward a-commerce is expected to impact consumer goods first. The transition may alter the role of merchants, potentially reducing them to fulfillment nodes and leaving them vulnerable to changes in AI model behavior and preferences.
