Nandan Nilekani Rejects AI Doom Predictions for IT Services

Infosys Chairman Nandan Nilekani argues that artificial intelligence will increase demand for IT services and create new jobs through business transformation.

Infosys Chairman Nandan Nilekani rejected predictions that artificial intelligence will cause a decline in the IT services sector, characterizing such forecasts as "disaster marketing." He argued that demand for services will grow as companies undertake broad business transformations, noting that technology represents only 30 percent of such projects, while the remainder involves governance and guardrails.

Nilekani asserted that new employment opportunities will emerge from understanding client requirements and the scaling of India's small business economy through the adoption of AI and digital tools. He maintained that the requirement for companies like Infosys is increasing and that more work will come their way.

These remarks follow warnings from International Monetary Fund chief Kristalina Georgieva, who described AI as a "slow-moving tsunami" capable of influencing 40 percent of global jobs.
