Tesla Receives Permit for Statewide Robotaxi Service in Texas

Tesla received a permit from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to operate its Robotaxi ride-hailing service across the entire state. The approval designates the company as a transportation network company, which allows it to deploy automated motor vehicles without requiring a human safety driver or valet on board.

Until this permit, the service operated only in specific areas of Austin. In those initial zones, ride prices have risen from $4.20 to $6.90. While the service remains limited to Austin for now, the new regulatory approval enables the company to expand its automated fleet into other major metropolitan hubs, including Dallas and Houston.
