Diraq and Equinix to Deploy Quantum Computer in Sydney

Diraq and Equinix will install a silicon spin quantum computer in a Sydney data center by October 2026 to test commercial integration.

Diraq and Equinix, Inc. are deploying a silicon spin quantum computer at an Equinix data center in Sydney, Australia. Scheduled for completion in October 2026, the installation marks the first time such a system will operate within a shared commercial data center.

The system utilizes a silicon chip with eight qubits and includes self-contained cryogenic cooling and control electronics. It is designed for efficiency, drawing less than 20kW of power. Diraq claims its use of existing CMOS fabrication technology allows for easier scaling to millions of qubits compared to alternative quantum technologies.

The collaboration aims to test real-world performance in a live environment and explore the integration of quantum computing with AI and classical CPUs and GPUs. The facility will provide industry partners a venue to explore practical applications. Andrew Dzurak, founder and CEO of Diraq, stated that quantum computers are becoming as essential to computing infrastructure as data servers and GPUs.
