Iran Refuses to Remove Enriched Uranium from Territory

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran rejected demands to remove enriched uranium, asserting its nuclear program remains strictly for peaceful purposes.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran announced on November 2, 2026, that the country refuses to allow the removal of enriched uranium from its territory. During a press conference in Tehran, spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that no negotiations have taken place regarding the removal of uranium enriched to 60%.

Baghaei maintained that the nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes and affirmed that Iran remains committed to its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. He explicitly rejected demands from the United States for surrender, stating that such a concept is not in the country's vocabulary.

While the Iranian government continues to deny the removal of nuclear materials, it has engaged in indirect communication with the United States. Baghaei noted that messages were exchanged via Qatari mediation during a visit to Qatar by Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi, though he described the current diplomatic landscape as increasingly complex due to U.S. actions.
