Federal Agents Search Ilhan Omar's Home Amid Fraud Probe
Representative Ilhan Omar faces a federal investigation into immigration fraud and accusations from Somaliland that she leaked classified congressional information to Somali leaders.
Federal agents executed a search warrant at the Washington, D.C. home of Ilhan Omar as part of a renewed investigation into alleged immigration and citizenship document fraud. The probe focuses on whether the congresswoman committed fraud to obtain immigration benefits, including questions regarding her own citizenship claims and her father's naturalization status.
This inquiry follows two previous reviews conducted during the Trump and Biden administrations, both of which were closed due to insufficient evidence. Border Czar Tom Homan stated that investigators now have a "strong case," though he noted that evidence should lead where it leads. Representative Omar denies any wrongdoing, and no formal charges have been filed.
Simultaneously, the Government of Somaliland has renewed accusations that Representative Omar leaked classified information from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Ali Hassan Mohamed, a former Somaliland minister of information, alleges that Omar visited Garowe in December 2022 and shared details of a meeting between the committee and the President of Somaliland. Somaliland officials claim these leaks urged Somali leaders to take proactive action against the region, contributing to the February 2023 conflict in Las Anod that caused hundreds of deaths and thousands of displacements.
