Congress Issues Notice to Minister Konda Surekha Over Daughter's Remarks
Telangana Minister Konda Surekha responded to a Congress disciplinary notice after her daughter challenged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's candidate selection for the Parkal constituency.
The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee issued a formal disciplinary notice to Konda Surekha, the state's Endowments and Forest Minister, following critical remarks made by her daughter, Konda Sushmita, against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. The conflict erupted after Chief Minister Reddy publicly endorsed sitting MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy for the Parkal Assembly constituency, contradicting the Konda family's efforts to project Sushmita as the candidate.
During birthday celebrations in Geesukonda on August 19, Sushmita challenged the Chief Minister's authority to decide her ticket and accused him of arrogance. She further alleged that the Congress party is sidelining Backward Classes leaders and claimed the Chief Minister's family was involved in a 200-crore land deal via a shell company. Sushmita threatened to contest the seat as an independent candidate.
In response, TPCC Disciplinary Committee Chairman Mallu Ravi required Surekha to provide an explanation within three days. Surekha submitted her formal response on August 20, arguing that her daughter's comments were personal views and that demanding political responsibility from a parent for a relative's opinions is improper. Meanwhile, BJP leader Karunasagar leveraged the internal rift to demand the Chief Minister's resignation and an investigation into the corruption allegations.
