Martin Lewis Urges Benefit Claimants to Use Social Tariffs
Financial expert Martin Lewis is urging millions of UK benefit claimants to switch to discounted social tariffs for broadband, phone, and water services.
Millions of people receiving benefits from the Department for Work and Pensions are missing out on discounted broadband, phone, and water packages known as social tariffs. Financial expert Martin Lewis recently highlighted these options on his programme, noting that eligible individuals can reduce their monthly bills to as low as £10.
These essential packages are available to those receiving Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Employment and Support Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance, and Income Support. Some providers also extend eligibility to claimants of Personal Independence Payment and Attendance Allowance. Most unlimited broadband social tariffs range from £10 to £23 per month and offer speeds exceeding 30 Mbit/s, with some providers offering terms that prevent mid-contract price increases.
Eligible consumers can find a comprehensive list of available tariffs through Ofcom. Applicants can apply online or via their current provider, and some may be permitted to leave existing contracts without paying penalty fees to switch to a social tariff.
