Analysts Project Indian Rupee Stability Ahead of RBI Meeting
Market analysts project the Indian rupee will remain stable between 94.00 and 97.50 ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's August monetary policy meeting.
Market analysts expect the Indian rupee to remain stable ahead of the Reserve Bank of India Monetary Policy Committee meeting in August. Despite volatility in crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions in West Asia, experts project the USD/INR exchange rate will trade between 94.00 and 97.50, asserting it is unlikely to cross the 100 mark.
Recent price surges in Brent crude have been attributed to maritime supply bottlenecks in the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts warn that sustained high oil prices could widen India's current account deficit and push retail inflation toward 6% by December. However, strong capital inflows and foreign exchange reserves are expected to provide an economic cushion.
Because of persistent imported inflation, analysts suggest the central bank may maintain a hawkish stance and avoid immediate interest rate cuts. Observers note a direct correlation between the easing of crises in West Asia and the subsequent strength of the rupee as crude oil prices retreat from previous peaks.
