Digital India Programme Marks 11th Anniversary with UPI Growth

The Government of India celebrates 11 years of the Digital India Programme, highlighting the global expansion of the Unified Payments Interface and domestic hardware manufacturing.

The Government of India marks the 11th anniversary of the Digital India Programme on July 1, highlighting a comprehensive transformation of the nation's digital infrastructure. A central achievement is the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which the International Monetary Fund recognized as the world's largest real-time payment system after processing over 24,162 crore transactions in FY 2025-26.

Other digital service milestones include the DigiLocker platform hosting over 850 crore documents and 12 crore users accessing government services through the UMANG app. The program has also shifted focus toward hardware independence, with domestic mobile phone manufacturing reaching nearly 48% by 2025 and the approval of 12 semiconductor projects.

On the global stage, India has signed Memoranda of Understanding with 24 countries to collaborate on Digital Public Infrastructure. UPI services have expanded beyond domestic borders and are now active in more than eight nations, including France, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.
