Singapore Minister Proposes Deeper Cooperation With China
Minister Chee Hong Tat called for expanded Singapore-China collaboration in green energy, artificial intelligence, and senior care during the Lianhe Zaobao Singapore-China Forum.
Singapore's Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat proposed deepened cooperation between Singapore and China in the fields of green transition, artificial intelligence, and aging populations during the Lianhe Zaobao Singapore-China Forum on July 6, 2026. Chee identified China's leadership in robotics, intelligent manufacturing, and renewable energy as critical areas for Singapore to study, while offering Singapore's own expertise in sustainable urban planning in return.
Addressing the demographic challenges facing both nations, Chee noted that both are becoming "super-aged" and should exchange strategies regarding mutual-aid eldercare and senior-friendly housing. He further emphasized that China's efforts to stabilize its property market and expand domestic consumption are vital for global economic stability.
To foster long-term stability, Chee advocated for increased cultural and youth exchanges. He argued that such initiatives are necessary to build mutual trust and prevent younger generations from perceiving other nations as threats.
