Cook Political Report Labels Kansas Senate Race a Toss-Up

Cook Political Report shifted the Kansas Senate race to a toss-up as Senator Roger Marshall faces scrutiny over past lawsuits against medical patients.

The Cook Political Report shifted the Kansas Senate race from lean Republican to a toss-up on October 6, 2026. The rating change follows polling that shows Republican Senator Roger Marshall holding a narrow 0.4% lead over Democratic candidate Adam Hamilton.

Marshall is facing scrutiny over reports that he sued 700 patients for medical bills during his career as an OB-GYN, a series of legal actions that resulted in 81 arrests. In response to the controversy, the Senate Leadership Fund invested $14 million in an ad campaign during the week of October 5 to defend the incumbent.

Democrats have outspent Republicans in the state, spending $8.2 million compared to $7 million by the GOP. The shift in Kansas coincides with broader trends favoring Democrats, as the Cook Political Report also moved Senate races in North Carolina and New Hampshire toward the Democratic column.
