BJP and Congress Clash Over Regime Change Allegations
BJP member Kali Prasad Rao accused the opposition of seeking regime change through protests, while Congress leader Shashi Tharoor demanded free and fair elections.
BJP State Executive Member Kali Prasad Rao accused the opposition of attempting to brainwash citizens into seeking regime change through street protests rather than electoral contests. Rao asserted that India will not become like Bangladesh and claimed that government changes must occur exclusively through elections, specifically targeting Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party for making baseless allegations.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor rejected the analogies between India, Bangladesh, and France, stating that the opposition does not condone violence. Tharoor clarified that the party is not seeking to topple the government but is instead demanding free and fair elections. He characterized the irregular and partially illegal removal of large numbers of people from electoral rolls as a constitutional issue that requires resolution.
