Coles Cancels Orders After Alcohol Pricing Glitch
Coles Group cancelled orders and issued refunds after a technical error discounted 24-packs of alcohol by nearly 80% on its website and app.
A technical error on the Coles Group website and app led to massive discounts on 24-packs of beer and ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The glitch, which affected the retailer's subsidiary Liquorland, reduced prices by nearly 80%, marking down items such as Jack Daniel’s & Cola from $130 to $27 and Smirnoff Crush Mango & Peach from $202 to $29.
The pricing error went viral after a Reddit post by operators of the price-tracking site CW Scanner alerted customers. The resulting surge in traffic caused multiple outages for the Coles website and app. CW Scanner suggested the glitch may have occurred because AI integration used a wildcard search term that incorrectly applied 4-pack pricing to 24-pack cartons.
Coles cancelled the affected orders and stated that customers who were already charged would be refunded. To compensate for the inconvenience, the company offered affected shoppers a $15 Coles Online credit.
