Chick-fil-A Rejects AI Voice Ordering for Drive-Thrus
Chick-fil-A will not use artificial intelligence for drive-thru voice ordering to prioritize human-to-human hospitality over automated customer service.
Chick-fil-A will not implement artificial intelligence for voice ordering in its drive-thru lanes, opting instead to prioritize human-to-human hospitality. CEO Andrew Cathy stated that the company aims to maintain a warm environment for consumers and will not substitute direct customer interactions with technology, though the company continues to explore AI opportunities for behind-the-scenes operations.
This strategy diverges from other major fast-food competitors. McDonald's is currently testing an AI assistant named Archy, and Wendy's has already deployed an AI ordering assistant called FreshAi.
The decision aligns with consumer trends, including a SurveyMonkey survey cited by Forbes indicating that 79% of customers prefer human interaction over automated service. Chick-fil-A has maintained a leading position in customer satisfaction on the American Customer Satisfaction Index for more than a decade.
