FCA Closes Investigation Into Home REIT Real Estate Trust
The Financial Conduct Authority has closed its investigation into Home REIT and intends to take no further action against the company.
The Financial Conduct Authority has formally closed its investigation into Home REIT, a real estate investment company specializing in homeless accommodation, and intends to take no further action. The decision concludes a regulatory probe lasting over two years.
Home REIT entered a managed wind-down in 2024 following a series of scandals. These included an overvaluation crisis where properties were worth less than half of their purchase price and an audit that removed approximately £564 million in portfolio value. The company also faced criticism over poor property conditions.
Despite the regulatory closure, the company faces ongoing legal challenges. The law firm Harcus Parker has initiated High Court proceedings on behalf of roughly 800 shareholders, alleging the trust made fraudulent statements regarding rental income security and tenant quality. Separately, the Serious Fraud Office previously conducted six arrests and seven searches as part of its own investigation into the company's operations.
