Anthropic Co-Founder Forecasts US GDP to Reach $44 Trillion
Jack Clark predicts AI will expand United States economic output to $44 trillion by 2030, citing accelerated scientific discovery and technological improvement.
Jack Clark, co-founder of Anthropic, stated on Saturday that rapidly improving artificial intelligence capabilities will accelerate change across all fields. Speaking at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, Clark cited an internal company economic model forecasting that AI could expand United States economic output to $44 trillion by 2030, an increase from the current level of just over $30 trillion.
While acknowledging that such a figure "sounds very outlandish," Clark argued that the growth is implied by the continuous improvement of the technology and its role in increasing scientific discovery. He noted that if GDP were to grow this much, economic doctrine suggests that new industries and inventions would need to have been created to power such a major economic expansion.
Clark called for international cooperation to establish "unusual and serious rules" to manage the transformative technology as it continues to evolve.
