Amazon Secures $225 Billion in AI Chip Revenue Commitments
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced over $225 billion in revenue commitments for the company's Trainium AI accelerators during a first-quarter earnings call.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that the company's custom chip operation has secured more than $225 billion in revenue commitments for its Trainium AI accelerators. During a first-quarter earnings call, Jassy disclosed that the unit has reached an annual revenue run rate exceeding $20 billion, growing at triple-digit percentage rates. The business, which encompasses Graviton processors and Nitro networking chips deployed via Amazon Web Services, is now among the top three data center chip businesses globally.
Major AI developers have signed significant capacity agreements. OpenAI plans to consume two gigawatts of Trainium capacity starting in 2027, while Anthropic has agreed to secure up to five gigawatts. Jassy noted that the Trainium2 chips have largely sold out, citing a 30% better price-performance ratio than comparable GPUs. The newer Trainium3 chips, which began shipping in early 2026, are also nearly fully subscribed.
Despite the success of its internal silicon, Amazon remains a major customer of Nvidia. The company plans to deploy 1 million Nvidia GPUs in 2026 to meet ongoing demand.
