London Licenses Wayve Autonomous Fleet for Uber Ride Hailing
Transport for London granted private hire licenses to Wayve's autonomous electric vehicles to enable ride-hailing services via Uber.
Transport for London has granted Private Hire Vehicle licenses to a fleet of all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles powered by Wayve's AV2.0 AI Driver technology. The licensing marks a primary step in a partnership between Wayve and Uber Technologies Inc. to deploy autonomous rides across the city.
To comply with safety and policy requirements, the vehicles must operate under Uber's operator license and the government's AV Trialling Code of Practice. Each trip will include a licensed human driver onboard to oversee the autonomous system. These vehicles have already passed the necessary safety inspections conducted by Transport for London.
More than 100,000 residents have joined an interest list to access the service. A select group of these users will receive early access later this summer to provide feedback and help refine the experience before the service opens to the general public.
