EU to Designate Azure and AWS as DMA Gatekeepers

The European Commission is finalizing an investigation to designate Microsoft Corp.’s Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS) as gatekeepers under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This designation would bring both cloud platforms under the scope of the European Union's strict regulatory rulebook for Big Tech.

Regulators have concluded that both platforms meet the specific requirements to be classified as gatekeepers. While a formal decision is expected in November, officials noted that the current draft status of the process means the final timing could shift.
