U.S. Government Transfers $100 Million in Seized Cryptocurrency

The United States government moved over $100 million in Bitcoin and BNB from seized assets to exchange wallets on October 6, 2026.

The Federal government of the United States transferred more than $100 million in cryptocurrency on October 6, 2026, according to data from the blockchain intelligence platform Arkham. The movement included 833.599 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $71.6 million, and 40,285 BNB, valued at $31.63 million.

The Bitcoin was sourced from assets forfeited in the Potapenko-Turogin and Bitfinex hack cases and moved to Coinbase Prime deposit wallets. The BNB assets were previously seized from the trading firm Alameda Research.

While large transfers to exchanges typically spark speculation about imminent liquidation, the government operates under a March 2025 executive order that established a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve for the retention of forfeited Bitcoin. The U.S. government currently holds approximately $27.5 billion in cryptocurrency seized through enforcement actions and has not used taxpayer funds to purchase digital assets.
