CNPC and India Discuss Deepening Energy Cooperation in New Delhi

Chairman of the China National Petroleum Corporation Dai Houliang met with India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri in New Delhi on September 11, 2026. The leaders discussed expanding practical cooperation in oil and gas, new energy, and green and low-carbon development.

Dai Houliang stated that recent consensus between the leaders of China and India provides a foundation for this cooperation and suggested the two nations work together to increase their influence in global energy governance. Minister Puri highlighted that both countries are major energy importers and expressed a desire to deepen these ties through the BRICS platform.

The meeting followed the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, where participating leaders adopted a joint declaration identifying energy security as a fundamental requirement for national security and economic development.
