Treasury Secretary Bessent Predicts AI Surge and Iran Isolation
Scott Bessent predicts an AI-driven productivity boom and outlines plans to isolate Iran using U.S. financial dominance and potential sanctions on Chinese banks.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent predicted a watershed moment in productivity driven by artificial intelligence within the next six months. He asserted that AI spending will eventually be disinflationary and result in an increase in real wages.
On international security, Bessent stated that China shares the same ultimate objectives as the United States regarding the Strait of Hormuz and the prevention of Iran acquiring nuclear weapons. He argued that the U.S. can successfully isolate Iran by leveraging the strength of the U.S. financial services industry to block the trade of U.S. dollars for those dealing in Iranian products.
To enforce this isolation, Bessent indicated the U.S. could employ secondary sanctions against Chinese banks that continue to facilitate trade with Iran.
