Uganda Grants State Burial to Late General Moses Ali

President Yoweri Museveni has granted an official state burial to General Moses Ali, the former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Adjumani West, who died at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala. Under the presidential directive, the Government of Uganda will cover all funeral costs. Museveni praised the late general as a soldier, political leader, and modern farmer in the West Nile region.

Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda announced the formation of a hybrid National Organising Committee to manage the arrangements. Following funeral prayers on Sunday at the National Mosque and the Islamic University in Uganda, the schedule includes a special parliamentary session on July 21. Government Chief Whip Jane Ruth Aceng coordinated the session, where Museveni serves as the chief mourner.

General Ali was a retired four-star general of the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces and the longest-serving cabinet minister in the country. A member of the ruling National Resistance Movement, he recently became Africa's oldest elected MP at age 83. Despite controversies regarding his frail health during his final candidacy, he had campaigned on an agenda of infrastructure and municipality status for Adjumani West.

Following the parliamentary tributes, General Ali's body will be airlifted to the Adjumani district. The proceedings conclude with a vigil and regional local council sitting at Paridi Stadium on July 22, followed by a burial ceremony at Atabu Parish, Pakele Division.
