NAACP Leaders Launch Youth Voter Outreach in Detroit

The NAACP conducted phone banking operations in Detroit to mobilize Black voters aged 18-25 ahead of the 2026 midterm elections in Michigan.

National leaders of the NAACP gathered in Detroit on Monday to conduct phone banking operations on the eve of Election Day. The initiative targeted Black voters aged 18-25 in Wayne and Macomb counties, focusing on the economy and the creation of specific polling plans to ensure turnout.

The effort highlights the strategic importance of Michigan in the 2026 midterm elections, where an open U.S. Senate seat could determine the balance of power in the chamber. NAACP President Derrick Johnson described the current campaign cycle as the most divisive he has seen across the country, stating that ethnic and religious differences have been used to polarize the electorate.

Outreach efforts were led by National Mobilization Director Amari Fennoy and A’naya Jones, Vice President of the Michigan NAACP's Youth and College Division. The organizers aimed to provide a final point of contact for young voters to encourage participation despite widespread voter exhaustion.
