Elon Musk Releases AI Odyssey to Counter Christopher Nolan
Elon Musk released a seven-minute AI-generated episode of The Odyssey via Grok Imagine after criticizing Christopher Nolan's casting choices in his successful live-action film.
Elon Musk released the first seven-minute episode of an AI-generated adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey on October 23, 2026, via the Grok Imagine platform. Produced in collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker, the project serves as a response to Christopher Nolan's live-action film of the same epic. Musk had previously accused Nolan of being an "anti-White racist" and "desecrating Homer" for casting Lupita Nyong’o and Elliot Page.
While Musk vowed in July to produce a full-length, historically accurate movie by the end of 2026, the current release is an episodic series. Critics and viewers have panned the AI version, describing the acting as "soulless" and "wooden" and labeling the content as "pure garbage." Despite Musk's claims of historical accuracy, the production has been criticized for using English instead of Homeric Greek and featuring medieval clothing.
In contrast, Christopher Nolan's adaptation has become a massive commercial and critical success, earning over $1.78 billion worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing release for Universal Pictures. Nolan dismissed the casting backlash as "irrelevant," while Lupita Nyong’o stated that the cast is representative of the world. The AI-generated episode has reached 4 million views, though Grok has not confirmed a release date for a full-length feature.
