Jeremy Clarkson Vows to Open Second Pub Outside UK

Jeremy Clarkson criticized the Labour government's farming policies and announced he will open his next pub outside the United Kingdom due to the domestic business climate.

During a surprise appearance at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham on October 5, Jeremy Clarkson criticized the Labour government for its treatment of British farming and business. Speaking alongside land agent Charlie Ireland and Shadow Environment Secretary Victoria Atkins, Clarkson described the current state of farming as an "absolute disaster" and "terrible," citing a disastrous harvest on his Oxfordshire farm caused by extreme heat.

Clarkson argued that farmers face "relentless" pressures from multiple directions, including energy costs, inheritance tax policies, and the geopolitical impacts of conflicts in Ukraine and Iran. He specifically targeted the government's approach to family farm taxes and alleged that Environment Secretary Angela Eagle postponed meetings with Charlie Ireland three times. While Clarkson noted his own diverse income streams provide a safety net, he claimed ordinary farmers are struggling under these combined pressures.

Due to the current economic climate, Clarkson announced he is looking "quite hard" into opening a second pub but explicitly stated it will not be in the United Kingdom. This follows the August 2024 opening of his first pub, The Farmer's Dog, in Asthall, Oxfordshire. Separately, Clarkson confirmed that filming for the sixth season of his Amazon Prime series, Clarkson's Farm, is nearly complete and will soon enter editing and translation.
