NNPC Increases Nigeria Oil Production to 1.8 Million Barrels
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited increased crude oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day following industry reforms and $20 billion in new investments.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has increased Nigeria's crude oil production by 600,000 barrels per day, raising daily output from 1.2 million to 1.8 million barrels. Group CEO Bashir Bayo Ojulari announced the figures during the 2026 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference, attributing the growth to the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021, improved investment conditions, and stronger partnerships.
NNPC is now targeting a production level of two million barrels per day by 2027. To support this goal, the company has concluded commercial agreements for approximately $20 billion in investments involving TotalEnergies, Shell, and Eni. The company is also pursuing new partnerships with Chinese investors and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
Beyond crude oil, the company completed the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben gas pipeline in August 2026 and established over 400 compressed natural gas conversion centres to reduce petrol dependence. NNPC aims for national gas production of 10 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2027. Regional energy efforts include alignment with Morocco on the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline and with Algeria and Niger on the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline.
