Scribner and Maxwell Compete for New York 118th Assembly Seat

Republican Heather Scribner and Democrat Colleen Maxwell are campaigning to succeed Robert Smullen in New York's 118th Assembly District ahead of the November 3 election.

Republican Heather Scribner and Democrat Colleen Maxwell are competing for the New York 118th Assembly District seat. The race follows the decision by incumbent Robert Smullen to decline reelection after losing a congressional primary. The district includes Hamilton, most of Herkimer, and portions of Fulton and Oneida counties.

Scribner, the current Fulton County treasurer and former town clerk, is campaigning on a platform of public safety, fiscal discipline, and the reduction of energy costs. Maxwell, a business owner and chair of the Newport Town Board, is prioritizing property tax relief, the regulation of solar farms and data centers, and the implementation of Medicare for all within New York State.

While the contest has been mostly cordial, Maxwell has criticized Scribner for avoiding public debates and relying on the Republican party label. Scribner has denied these accusations, attributing the lack of debates to scheduling conflicts and pointing to a candidate forum scheduled for October 27 in Whitesboro. Election day is Tuesday, November 3.
