Norwich Airport Closures Cancel KLM Flights Amid Labor Dispute

Norwich Airport closed for three separate periods on September 3 following air traffic control staff sickness and ongoing industrial action. The facility was shut from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm, and 6:45 pm to 7:45 pm.

The closures led to the cancellation of three KLM flights between Norwich and Amsterdam, specifically KL1054, KL1055, and KL1056. While flights to Rhodes, Mahon, and Aberdeen were expected to operate as scheduled, the disruptions potentially impacted helicopter shuttles serving North Sea offshore installations.

This instability is part of a broader dispute with the Prospect union over pay, parental leave, and working conditions that began on August 17. The September closures follow a total airport shutdown on August 28 during a 24-hour strike. Airport management stated it is continuing efforts to reach a deal with staff.
