Reliance Jio and Indian Government Advance 6G Technology Goals

Reliance Jio and the Indian government are developing proprietary 6G infrastructure and international partnerships to establish India as a global telecom technology leader by 2030.

India is accelerating its transition from a consumer market to a global telecom technology hub through the development of indigenous 6G infrastructure and international strategic partnerships. At the India Mobile Congress 2026 in New Delhi, Reliance Jio showcased a proprietary pre-6G stack and Giga MIMO Radio. The company aims for India to be among the first nations to deploy 6G by 2030, targeting ten times lower latency and five times the capacity of 5G to support holographic video and real-time AI.

To influence global standards, Reliance Jio has filed over 8,000 patents and made more than 934 contributions to international frameworks. Its strategy focuses on AI-native and quantum-safe network architectures across hardware and software.

Complementing these corporate efforts, the Indian government is pushing for inclusive technology design. During the third International Bharat 6G Symposium 2026, Union Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani stated that 6G must prioritize affordability and accessibility to prevent a new digital divide, suggesting the integration of satellite and terrestrial networks for remote areas. The symposium, organized by the Bharat 6G Alliance, resulted in five new Memoranda of Understanding with international bodies, including the GSMA and the 6G Innovation Forum Taiwan, to improve joint research and global interoperability as part of the national goal for a developed India by 2047.
