Delhi High Court Hears Personality Rights Suits by Ranaut and Deverakonda

Actor and MP Kangana Ranaut and actor Vijay Deverakonda filed separate lawsuits in the Delhi High Court to protect their personality rights against AI-generated content.

The Delhi High Court is presiding over two separate lawsuits filed by public figures seeking to protect their personality and publicity rights against digital exploitation. Kangana Ranaut, a BJP Member of Parliament and actor, filed a suit on October 8, 2026, requesting the removal of AI-generated and obscene content from online media. Her legal counsel cited the spread of fake news, pornographic graphic content, and AI-generated statements falsely attributed to her.

Simultaneously, actor Vijay Deverakonda approached the court alleging the unauthorized use of his name, image, and persona. Deverakonda's plea highlights the commercial exploitation of his identity through merchandise, fake endorsements, and impersonation by individuals posing as his agents. He specifically raised concerns regarding digital manipulation of photographs and the circulation of offensive material using his likeness.

Justice Vikas Mahajan heard the applications and issued summons to the defendant parties in both cases. While some offending URLs were removed following the filing of the suits, the court indicated that it will pass orders regarding the interim injunctions for both Ranaut and Deverakonda.
