Apple to Launch Redesigned Siri Chatbot for iOS 27

Apple Inc. plans to unveil a redesigned Siri as a standalone chatbot application during the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8, 2026. Expected to debut with iOS 27, the revamped assistant will feature a conversational interface similar to ChatGPT, supporting multi-turn conversations and file uploads. The system will be powered by a custom 1.2-trillion-parameter Google Gemini model licensed for approximately $1 billion annually.

To maintain a competitive privacy advantage, Apple is introducing auto-deleting chat histories, allowing users to set retention periods for 30 days, one year, or permanent storage. The company primarily uses synthetic data rather than user conversations to train its systems. Additionally, a new Siri Extensions system will allow users to route specific queries through alternative models, including Claude from Anthropic or ChatGPT.

Despite these additions, the new Siri may launch with a beta label following two years of delays. This timing coincides with growing tensions with OpenAI, whose executives have described the Siri integration as "a failure." OpenAI is reportedly weighing legal action against Apple over the commercial outcomes of their partnership and Apple's decision to integrate Google's Gemini models.
