Moody's Links Romania Credit Profile to 2027 Budget
Moody's Ratings identified the formation of a new government and the 2027 budget adoption as positive developments for Romania's credit profile.
Moody's Ratings reported that the formation of a new government and the timely adoption of the 2027 budget are positive developments for the credit profile of Romania. The agency maintains its forecasts for budget deficit reductions, projecting a decline from 7.9% of GDP in 2025 to 5.8% in 2026 and 5.5% in 2027.
Alexandru Nazare, the interim Finance Minister, described the 2027 budget as a "major test of credibility" and stated that fiscal discipline is a requirement for protecting the country's credit rating and maintaining creditor confidence. He noted that while progress has been made in correcting budget imbalances, the process is not yet complete.
Romania currently holds a Baa3 rating with a negative outlook. The Ministry of Finance committed to continuing the fiscal and budgetary consolidation process, seeking to maintain a sustainable deficit trajectory and control public spending while protecting investments for economic development.
