National Highways will implement a series of overnight road closures on the M6 at Lowther Bridge near Penrith to conduct essential maintenance on the 50-year-old structure. The project involves installing permanent expansion joints, repairing the bridge deck, waterproofing, resurfacing, and replacing road markings, with all work expected to be completed by the end of August.
The closure schedule affects both directions between Junction 39 at Shap and Junction 40 at Penrith. The northbound carriageway will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on August 8, 15, and 22. The southbound carriageway will be closed during the same hours on August 9, 16, and 23.
Traffic will be diverted via the A6 during these periods to maintain flow around the construction site.
