India and North Macedonia Agree to Double Bilateral Trade

Indian President Droupadi Murmu conducted a historic two-day state visit to Skopje on July 21, 2026, marking the first time an Indian head of state has visited North Macedonia. During bilateral talks with President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, the two leaders agreed to double the volume of bilateral trade and expand cooperation in sectors including information technology, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and healthcare.

As part of the agreements, India will double the number of Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation training slots for North Macedonia, including new courses in artificial intelligence. North Macedonia expressed its intention to join three India-led international initiatives: the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and the Global Biofuels Alliance.

The visit included a business forum to promote investment and institutional engagements between the two governments and parliaments. Ceremonial activities featured the joint unveiling of a Mahatma Gandhi bust at the Museum of Skopje and a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of Goce Delcev at St. Spas Church. President Siljanovska-Davkova characterized India as one of the most influential voices in shaping the global agenda and noted that the economic partnership should now match the high quality of existing political relations.
