Romania Uncovers Russian Sabotage Network Targeting Arms Factories
The Romanian Intelligence Service uncovered a Russian-coordinated sabotage network targeting military and industrial sites, including a planned arson attack on an arms factory.
The Romanian Intelligence Service uncovered a sabotage network coordinated by Russian intelligence services that targeted military and industrial sites across the region. The network is accused of planning a fire at the Carfil arms factory in Brașov last month and causing a fire at an industrial site in Central Romania in September.
Romanian authorities state the operations aimed to damage defense capabilities and intimidate countries contributing to European and regional security, specifically targeting sites used to train the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism is currently investigating three foreign nationals—one Ukrainian and two Belarusians—who were located in Germany and Poland.
The Bucharest Court of Appeal has issued European Arrest Warrants for the suspects, and Romanian authorities are seeking their extradition. The Federal Government of Russia has denied allegations of conducting sabotage operations in Europe.
