Asaduddin Owaisi Calls for Chief Election Commissioner's Resignation
Asaduddin Owaisi warned that the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls is a backdoor NRC and demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi characterized the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as a "backdoor NRC" during a press conference in Hyderabad on Sunday. He warned citizens that failing to respond to SIR notices or neglecting to file Form 6 could result in the loss of both voting rights and citizenship.
Owaisi called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, asserting that Kumar has lost the moral right to hold office following reports of internal dissent among commissioners. He alleged that the Election Commission of India has fallen under complete executive control due to new laws governing the appointment of commissioners, which replaced the Chief Justice of India with a Union Minister on the appointment panel to benefit the ruling party.
Additionally, Owaisi claimed the Bharatiya Janata Party established a commission led by a retired Supreme Court judge to identify illegal migrants in areas where the SIR process has already been completed. He urged individuals to attend hearings with proper documentation to protect their legal status.
