Micron Technology Reports Record Revenue Amid AI Boom
Micron Technology is seeing record growth and structural business shifts driven by high demand for AI-related high-bandwidth memory chips.
Micron Technology is experiencing a massive revenue surge and a structural shift in its business model driven by the proliferation of artificial intelligence. The company reported record-breaking fiscal third quarter 2026 results, with revenue reaching $41.456 billion—a 345.7% year-over-year increase—and a record non-GAAP gross margin of 84.9%. Annual revenue is currently running near $90 billion, with net income over the last 12 reported months reaching $50.5 billion.
This growth is largely attributed to the demand for high-bandwidth memory, which has become an architectural bottleneck for AI accelerators. To mitigate the historical volatility of the cyclical memory chip market, which previously saw the company swing from an $8.7 billion profit in fiscal 2022 to a $5.8 billion loss in fiscal 2023, Micron has implemented multi-year Strategic Customer Agreements. The company has signed 16 such agreements involving $22 billion in deposits and approximately $100 billion in remaining performance obligations to make results more durable.
CEO Sanjay Mehrotra stated that the company is investing at record levels in technology and supply to meet growing demand. Despite high capital expenditures, including $7.826 billion in the third quarter, Micron plans to return 100% of excess cash to shareholders starting in December 2026. Management expects approximately $50 billion in revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter.
