Amazon Now Hits $1 Billion Annualized Sales in India

Amazon Now reached $1 billion in annualized gross sales in India and plans to expand to 100 cities by Diwali.

The quick-commerce arm of Amazon India, Amazon Now, has reached $1 billion in annualized gross sales, becoming the fastest-growing e-commerce business unit in the company's history in India. The service has seen order volumes double every quarter since its launch a year ago, currently handling approximately 700,000 daily orders with an average order value of Rs 540.

To sustain this momentum, Amazon plans to expand the service from its current 60 cities and towns to 100 cities by Diwali in November, with a long-term target of 300 cities. The operation currently utilizes a network of more than 750 micro-fulfilment centres to deliver electronics, fashion, and essentials within minutes. Amazon Now currently holds a 10% market share by order volume and 14% by value.

This growth occurs within a highly competitive landscape. Blinkit maintains a leading national share of dark stores, while the Walmart-controlled Flipkart Minutes has recently surpassed Swiggy Instamart in dark store count and PIN code coverage within India's top 10 cities. Other major competitors include Zepto and Swiggy, as the broader Indian e-commerce market is projected to reach $250 billion by 2030.
