Raytheon and CET Demonstrate Low-Cost Hadalus Undersea Vehicle
Raytheon and Composite Energy Technologies successfully demonstrated the Hadalus unmanned undersea vehicle during a U.S. Navy exercise, showcasing long-endurance capabilities at a reduced cost.
Raytheon and Composite Energy Technologies (CET) successfully demonstrated the undersea launch and mission capabilities of Hadalus, a new unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV), during a U.S. Navy exercise. The 34-foot prototype, which features an all-carbon-fiber exoskeleton, completed a series of submerged missions on a Navy undersea test range.
Developed in less than 18 months through joint investment, the vehicle integrates CET's composite architecture with Raytheon's sensors and mission systems. Hadalus is designed for high endurance, with a range exceeding 2,000 nautical miles. The partners project the vehicle will cost between one-third and one-fifth of comparable long-endurance platforms.
This demonstration marks the first time the U.S. Navy has observed this integrated capability in the water. The project aims to provide a platform capable of detecting, reacquiring, and engaging targets within a single mission, utilizing a development cycle intended to be faster and more cost-effective than traditional defense procurement.
