General Catalyst Backed Firms Plan $66 Billion Wyoming Data Center
General Catalyst backed firms are constructing a prototype data center in Wyoming as the first phase of a planned $66 billion investment.
General Catalyst Partners is providing the financial backing for a massive data center project near Lost Cabin, Wyoming, led by ETC DC OpCo, Aethel Energy, and Electio Technologies. The first phase consists of a prototype metal facility with a server section, which is expected to receive power from High Plains Power by late October or early November 2026.
The long-term plan involves a $66 billion investment to build multiple facilities. To ensure off-grid power, the developers intend to use natural gas reciprocating generators with a 500 megawatt capacity. The project's scale will likely necessitate approval from the Industrial Siting Commission.
Fremont County commissioners have raised concerns regarding the lack of local zoning regulations to manage the environmental, water, and land impacts of such a large-scale development. While some officials noted the facility's closed-loop water system as a positive mitigating factor, others warned that the absence of new regulations could lead to an uncontrollable proliferation of similar projects in the region.
