Lahore High Court Refuses Immediate Release of Imran Khan's Sisters

The Lahore High Court declined requests for the immediate suspension of 30-day detention orders issued against Dr. Uzma Khan, Noreen Niazi, and Aleema Khan, sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The women were detained under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, based on police reports alleging their activities were prejudicial to public safety and linked to the May 9, 2023, protests.

Justice Abher Gul Khan issued notices to the Lahore deputy commissioner, the capital city police officer, and the secretary of the Home Department, seeking formal reports and replies before making a final decision. In a separate petition filed by Aleema Khan's son, Shahraiz Khan, the court specifically requested a response from the Punjab home secretary regarding the legality of Aleema's detention, which began on September 20. The petition argues the order lacked specific allegations and failed to follow legal procedures.

These legal developments coincide with the PTI's preparations for a nationwide protest and march toward Islamabad scheduled for September 27. Additionally, the Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court deferred its verdict in a separate case against Aleema Khan related to a November 26 protest, rescheduling the decision for October 1.
