Supreme Court of Nigeria Mandates Digital Filing for Appeals
The Supreme Court of Nigeria requires lawyers to upload all case documents via the Nigerian Case Management System for hearings scheduled through December 2026.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has mandated that legal practitioners upload all relevant court documents through the Nigerian Case Management System (NCMS) for appeals and motions scheduled between September and December 2026. Under this directive, which aligns with Rule 10(1) of the Supreme Court Practice Direction 2026, lawyers must upload briefs of argument, records of appeal, and pending motions at least 30 days before their hearing dates.
This requirement follows the July 1 unveiling of the electronic filing system by Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. Chief Registrar Kabir Eniola Akanbi issued the directive to modernize judicial administration and reduce the court's reliance on paper-based processes. The transition to the NCMS is intended to ensure the efficient and timely determination of cases by digitizing the management and filing of court records.
